GPS tracking systems are quite an invention that many of us take for granted. Tracking systems can track items, people or animals anywhere within the globe. They do have their limitations. If you are in a tunnel for example you will not be able to ascertain the location of the thing you are tracking, but on the whole they can track items pretty much anywhere.

I hear you ask, how can they do this? Well this is the clever bit. The item you want to track must be fitted with a GPS vehicle tracking device. This device in turn communicates with typically three satellites. The signals that are passed between the satellites gives the device the information it needs to ascertain its location. This information is then given to a server via GPRS. In turn this information is available via a secure internet connection for the end user to view.

Tracking is most commonly used for vehicle tracking. There are two main reasons for tracking vehicles. One, businesses use it to track company cars, vans, trucks, plant equipment and busses for a variety of benefits, but mostly end up with one basic advantage, higher profits.

The second reason for tracking vehicles is for security. Anti theft tracking is now used by many people, mainly individuals who own expensive cars so that they can lower their insurance premiums.
